Skin Sins

Here are seven deadly skins sins.

1. Sun. Exposing your face to the sunlight is the fastest way of all to age your skin. The good news is that you can prevent sun damage quite simply by wearing sunscreen whenever you leave the house. For day to day wear, SPF15 is enough, but if you're going to the beach wear SPF30 or above.

2. Smoking. After exposure to sunlight, smoking is the next most damaging thing you can do to your skin. The solution is simple-quit. Of course quitting isn't as easy as one, two three, but it is possible with dedication, perservance, and a methodical approach.

3. Alcohol. It attacks skin fibers, reducing firmness and elasticity. It also dehydrates the skin and can make wrinkles more prominent.

4. Stress. The stress hormones cause blood flow to be directed away from the surface of the skin to your limbs and major organs. This means that your skin doesn't get all the nutrients it needs and takes on a gray pallor. If stress does hit, knowing how to keep calm will help your skin survive.

5. Lack of sleep. Not getting the right amount of sleep is a disaster for your skin. It causes dark circles, sallowness, and puffiness under the eyes, as the skin diverts blood to fuel the tired brain and other organs.

6. Pollution. Pollution and harmful chemicals are other causes of free radicals in the skin and can contribute to aging. However, you can help fight internal damage by increasing your intake of fresh fruit and vegetables, which contain antioxidants to fight the damage.

7. Lack of exercise. Physical activity helps boost skin tone by increasing the amount of oxygen in your blood and reducing the amount of toxins that build up under your skin. Excercise increases your tolerance to stress which adds a boost to your skin health.
