The Fix-It-Mama
by: Rhee
Want to know how to save money and fix things at home, yourself? Look at our 1-2-3 easy steps for fixing, cleaning, and maintaining things around your house!
Being a Fix-it Mama can save you time and money and will provide you with a sense of pride and security in the finished product because-YOU DID IT YOURSELF!
Below you will find 5 (5) easy step-by-step suggestions to help you get organized, maintain your home, and repair broken things around the house.
1. Every busy mama wants to know that their home is safe. To check/recognize a gas leak paint propane or natural gas joints and fittings with laundry or dish soap. The fleeing gas will cause the detergent to bubble.
2. Wall Anatomy-Sometimes things happen and the door slams to hard into the wall or our children decide to reenact wrestle mania 3 causing a hole to occur.
To fix this problem quickly and easily cut out a piece of smooth cloth so that it will cover the hole approximately 2 inches. Next, soak the cloth in a diluted patching compound. Third, smooth the cloth over the hole and let dry. Next, spread a concentrated coat of compound over the patch and sand lightly so that the surface and edges are smooth and ready for paint.
3. Wacky Windows-During the winter months windows do not get as much use as during the warmer months. If you are ready to feel the brisk fall air or a spring and summer breeze but your windows are sticking, rub a paraffin block or one of your "fave" scented candles on the window tracks. Perhaps your windows have sash cords, apply granite dust (you can find it at any local hardware store) to the shank of the pulley allowing for easy opening and closing.
4. Money Measure-When you need to measure something in a hurry, a guide to getting that measurement is only a pocket, a purse, or a wallet away. You can use a DOLLAR BILL to figure out approximate measurements. The dollar bill is 6.5 inches long and 2.5 inches wide. If you fold it in half it is 3.5 inches long, and folded in quarters it is practically 1.5 inches long. Moreover, if you fold the dollar lengthwise it measures approximately 1¼ inches. So, now you can’t say that Uncle Sam has not given you anything. He provided you with a measuring device. Thanks Uncle Sam.
5. Powerful Mamas sometimes like playing with power tools. Yet, we all know that for little ones power tools can cause great damage. So, to keep power out of the hands of little ones place a mini padlock through the hole of one of the electrical plug prongs. You can find inexpensive padlocks at any local dollar store so purchase several of them at one time providing you with spare locks and (matching) keys just in case you happen to misplace the key to the power tool lock.
