Testimony Of The Soapy Bath

by Sharon Simpson Joseph

I stopped working to lift some weights and then went briefly back to my work . . . thinking OK, I know I need to take a shower, and I am looking forward to it. It's 2:20 PM. I am working out of home today and started the day by throwing on some clothes and beginning to research. I stopped working to lift some weights and then went briefly back to my work . . . thinking OK, I know I need to take a shower, and I am looking forward to it.

I finally ran a bath, added my favorite bubble bath and jumped in, a cup of tea by the side of the tub. I settled back amidst lots of bubbles and then, as I turned the hot water on to add a bit more heat to my bath . . . the water sputtered, then died.

I sat in disbelief. Got out, checked the sink, sure enough no water there either. I got back in the bath, thinking what am I going to do? Beside me was 1/2 a bottle of spring water (yes in addition to the tea) so I figured maybe I can use that to rinse off. (I had an awful lot of bubbles.) Why did this happen right now? In the middle of the afternoon, just when I am taking my bath? Why not 10 minutes ago, or 10 minutes later?

Anyway, then it occurred to me, there's nothing you can do about this right now. Why not sit back and enjoy the bath? You have everything you need for this step . . . taking the bath. Why not enjoy it and not sweat what's going to happen next. Don't ruin the joy of the bath, by worrying about how you are going to handle what comes after.

So I did.

Mid way through, I realized I'd left the water on (of course none was running out) I turned it off, thankful I noticed now. It could have meant an ugly flood later on. Continued to enjoy my bath. OK. I'm done, I figured. I turned the water on and . . . what do you think? There it was, back full blast! I washed off all the bubbles in the pleasant hot steam of my shower. Dried off and came to write this entry.

My testimony: I received a valuable lesson about faith. Each step of the way, you are blessed. God has the next step taken care of. Even when you have no idea what it's going to look like. Don't let that stop you from taking the step you face right now . . . go for it . . . and enjoy it! Believe that God has the next step handled.

Love, Sharon .

Count Your Blessings

by Changed Momma

Have You Ever Really Counted Your Blessings? I recently faced a health crisis that rocked my world. I cried. I prayed, but the miracle that I wanted did not come. However, the Lord showed me how worse things could have been. His grace helped me to see the things that really mattered. When I look at beautiful healthy daughter, my husband, my mom, my friends and family, I know now that his grace is sufficient.

SINGLE MOMMA DRAMA

The Sun has Come Out

by Helena - 2006-09-10

It was predicted to rain but it now looks clear. It would not matter because I am back on track.  I am getting ready to go to church with Leigh. I am not sure when my break through came, but I need to give thanks. Some say fake it until you make it. The problem is that I have never been really good at that. I not only where my heart on my sleeve but its in my eyes. It colors my cheeks. I have always had to feel good about circumstances to act like it. Needless to say I suck at office politics.

Well, all I know is I wake up each morning not hating life. I even survived last weekends shared weekend without the need to stab anyone. Thank you God for letting me be able to deal.

MOMMA THE BREAD WINNER

How much should I budget for a trip?

by Travel Mama

You do not want to spend all of your money getting there. You may want to eat as well. When planning a family trip or a getaway for just you and the girls, you have to consider the complete budget. More than likely you will be eating out for all three meals. You may want to use a cab to go certain places as opposed to using the rental car, etc. I suggest you budget as if you splurge every night while on this trip. That way you will be prepared for the worst case costs.

You can get a good estimate for costs based on the per diem (the daily expenses - food gas and shelter).

www.state.gov/www/perdiems/ The U.S. State Department Bureau of Administration Office of Allowances, Foreign Per Diem Rates web page. These per diem rates are the per day maximum amounts the U.S. Government would reimburse it’s employees or contractors during travel. These amounts will help give you an idea on the amount that you’ll need to budget for your trip. The site lists maximum rates for many foreign cities, in addition to, some cities in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and other possessions of the U.S. The rates are divided into sections for lodgings, meals and incidentals, and total amount. The amounts aren’t meant to cover luxury travel, but they should cover a comfortable mid-range stay. You can select a month and year for which to search for foreign per diem rates. You should consult the most recent months and the last figures stated for the time of year you will be visiting to account for high and low season price variations. Search the web and you can typically find the per diem for cities in the US.

MOMMA THE EDUCATOR

How Are They Teaching Your Kids?

by Hustle & Flow

We take the time to review test scores and report cards. Have you reviewed your child's curriculum? Do you know how they are trying to teach your child? Sometimes poor grades may be a symptom of a more deadly disease. You are the best judge of how your child learns. If you feel that it is not addressing their needs do something. For example many public schools still teach the site method instead of phonetics. If this is your situation, buy the phonics game, search the internet for phonics aids. Do not let the system label your child when you can help them.

MOMMA TIME

24 Hour Pass

by Hustle & Flow

When was the last time you took the time to treat yourself? Are you too busy being Super MOM to give yourself some TLC. Before the month is out, complete the following assignment. 1. Pick a 24 hour period to be devoted to completely to you. 2. Arrange for 24 hour daycare for that date: Call up your Mom or a trusted in-law and ship those dear children out for your 24 hour period. 3. Book a hair, nail and manicure appointment. Many spas can do all three at once. You want the time for relaxing but we do not want to spend your 24 in the salon. Time it so that you will have enough time to change and be ready for an evening outing. 4. Go into your closet and pick out two outfits: one that makes you feel special and one that is comfortable but chic for running around. Have these out fits ready for your 24. 5. Make reservations for dinner for one or two. Two if you have handy a great conversationalist spouse or significant other, however this is your night. You can treat yourself. 6. Pack the kids bags 48 hours before your date with yourself. 7. Your 24 hours has arrived. Take your time getting dressed in your comfortable running around outfit. Drop the kids off. 8. Arrive on time for your hair and spa treatment. 9. Once they are done, get dressed in your chic outfit and proceed to your intimate dinner. 10. Have a wonderful meal, savoring the visual appetizers of your selected restaurants (the colors, wall art, ambiance, the plating of the food, etc.) as much as the meal. Make the meal last bite by bite taking an unhurried pace. You are not rushing off to a meeting or late to pick up kids. You look great. Take your time. Enjoy a multiple course meal. Let the room enjoy the picture of an unhurried, self reliant, jubilant female. 11. Have dessert. 12. Go home and curl up with your favorite movie. 13. Remember to pick up the kids in the morning.
